Hi, I’m Abi.
I am a Registered Associate Nutritionist on a mission to break down misinformation around food. I want to remove the barriers and falsehoods perpetuated by diet culture and help restore healthy relationships between all foods and all bodies. I practice weight-inclusive, non-diet nutrition: no “cheat days”, banned foods, rigid diet plans or body fat scales. I am an evidence-based nutritionist – all of the advice I follow and share has a solid basis in high quality research. I focus on weight-inclusive health and wellbeing and advocate for Heath At Every Size (HAES®) and Intuitive Eating.
After my undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences I worked in fashion, where I stayed for 15 years. I got the job I always thought I wanted - but it never felt quite right. I wanted to do more to make a difference to people’s lives and knew I had more to offer. Lifelong food allergies means that nutrition has always been a big part of my life and I had always wanted to work in nutrition so I went and completed a Masters. I’ve swapped fashion magazines for research journals - and it was the best decision I ever made. That’s not to say I didn’t learn anything during my time in fashion: I developed vital skills in communication, motivation, coaching, team building and strategy which really come in handy when working with people and running your own business.
So how do you know I am qualified? I have an MSc in Human Nutrition (with distinction) and a BSc in Biological Sciences. These qualifications mean I have studied the body and the complex interactions between food, metabolism and hormones, so you can be sure that I have the science bit covered. As a Registered Nutritionist with the Association for Nutrition, I have been certified as having the depth of knowledge necessary to be part of their team (find me here, on the UK Register of Nutritionists, under Abigail Sleven).
